Description

After the events of The High Republic: Convergence, the Jedi travel to Jedha in this all-new Star Wars audiobook original.

Jedha. The worn streets of this ancient world serve as a confluence for the galaxy. Visited by all, yet owned by none. Here, the Jedi are but one creed among many worshipping and studying the Force. From the Guardians of the Whills to the Path of the Open Hand, countless beings come to learn, and to share, in peace.

As all of Jedha prepares for its Festival of show more Balance, the galaxy still reels from the violence on Eiram and E’ronoh. But after foiling a plot to escalate the war between the two planets, the Jedi believe that a lasting peace may be within reach. Master Creighton Sun and Jedi Knight Aida Forte arrive on Jedha with delegations from both planets to formally end the “Forever War.” The Jedi hope that the harmony of Jedha’s many factions, along with the signing of a peace treaty, will create a symbol to the rest of the galaxy of what can be accomplished through unity.

But not all are happy with the Jedi’s involvement or ready to concern themselves with peace. Rumors begin to swirl that the Jedi bring war in their wake. The distrust and anger that for so long fueled the Forever War now threaten to corrupt the communities of Jedha. When violence breaks out on the sacred moon, the war that was meant to end on Jedha may soon engulf the entire world.

Directly following the events of Zoraida Córdova's Convergence, George Mann's The Battle of Jedha sees the hostilities between Eiram and E'ronoh amp up, even as the two planets are attempting a peace summit to end the Forever War that has ravaged the worlds. It is decided that the summit be held on Jedha, a world sacred to many Force religions, seeing the planet as fairly neutral in the conflict. However, there are those of Eiram and E'ronoh who see no way around ending the conflict, and when the Path of the Open Hand makes their move to unbalance the trust in the Jedi, the Forever War may make its way to Jedha.

A solid follow up to Convergence, I still had the problem here of confusing which planet was which between Eiram and E'ronoh, show more and the introduction yet again of even more characters involved in this series seemed extreme. I'm not always a fan of audio dramas, but this one ended up coming together well by the end, and I'm looking forward to see where this chapter in the High Republic will lead. show less
The High Republic had a strong start with "Path of Deceit" and "Convergence" but reverts to the usual "Airport"-type style of a bunch of boring, ever-so-noble Jedi characters confronting a massive catastrophe seen in the "adult" novels of Phase 1. This story is unusually moralistic, hitting the reader over the head with exhortations to do the right thing. The voice acting is decent, although the actor playing Creighton Sun seems to be aping Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Kind of meh.
Who the heck are the brothers of the 9th door? Never heard of them before and nothing given about them; they reminded me of nihil wearing masks but just some random goons for hire here? The Mother and the Path are brought back and the Leveler but although there is serious manipulation and the leveler’s being set loose this is just a small part (not enough imo). For the length of some of these books I think a lot of things could have gone into greater detail; it kind of felt like I was reading the summary of the book and not the book itself. The characters all just seemed “fine”. The Jedi didn’t really feel like Jedi but bystanders; witnesses, and investigators. The battle felt lackluster especially since there was show more so much build up. show less
