I have a husband, we have two children and we own our house. I am in good health and so are they, our lives are good; we have everything we need. Sometimes I look at them and wait, in vain, to be moved, as a mother should when watching her own family. Why do I no longer feel anything? Julia is thirty-six years old. At first sight she has it all, but actually she feels miserable. Trapped in the monotony of daily family life and fed up with her passionless marriage, Julia wants out. Escape. For once not to be a good mother, a good wife, a good daughter. For the first time in her life she does something completely irresponsible: she leaves her family behind and heads off into the sun. When Julia finally meets someone who makes her realize what she's been missing all her life, she is forced to reconcile with her past and confront the crucial question: does she dare to go home?… (more)

Much better than I had anticipated. I thought it was going to be a quick, unchallenging chick-lit read. I was wrong. It is a roller coaster of emotion with you feeling all sorts for Julia - hate, admiration, excitement, confusion, despair and anxiety to mention a few. Julia is 36 years old; she has two young children and is in a marriage that she needs to escape. So she does. It begins as a joke to get her husband Paul to sit up and notice and then steam rolls into a plan that she has to see through. You won't necessarily like Julia, although you might see yourself in her.

The story could be cut short a little; by about 30 pages; which I know is not a lot but it is enough to prevent it from being a 4/5 and turning it into a 5/5. The blurb is brilliant, it doesn't reveal too much and consequently you have to read on to find out what actually happens to Julia. Does she get what she wants, or what she deserves?

Interesting plot, good characters, although I couldn't get a vivid picture of some of them and maybe this is something that is lost in translation. A surprisingly good read and an author I will seek out again. ( )
