How to Get a Girlfriend (When You're a Terrifying Monster)

I never thought I'd call a book with an Eldritch horror cute, but here we are. This was sweet, funny, and absolutely adorable. I love the idea of Trillin trying to become more human and wanting to flirt with Sian, when the endless being she split from has only wanted to dominate and control humans. It's a nice twist on the typical horror/doom and gloom that comes with Cthulu type monsters. It's a fairly quick read, so you can easily breeze through it in an afternoon. If you're looking for a sweet and quirky romance to read, then make sure you grab this one.

This is a delightful romp, which steals gleefully from both eldritch horror and romance tropes, with some academic gothic gleefully thrown in for Baroque ornamentation.

I loved the characters, I loved the way that it explored the ideas of monsters from other dimensions. I didn't enjoy some of the academic bullshit, and found it distracting--mostly because it was a bit too close to verging on farce, and I'm very much not a person for whom farce is a net positive.

A sapphic novella in which a young researcher ventures into the Endless Void, where she encounters a fragment of the EV, and they fall in love. And then they have to figure out how to be in love when the young researcher can't stop screaming whenever she sees the EV. It... makes more sense in the story. I think there's a good deal of playing around with stuff from Lovecraft's oeuvre, which I only got in the sense that I was pretty sure that's what was happening. I think it would have been a richer tale if I'd known the references.

Cosmic horror romantic comedy, and it's just as weird as you'd expect from that genre description. I have no clue what was going on for much of this but it was a fun ride, all the same.

A human witch from an Earth-like planet and a sentient being from a very NON-earth-like dimension meet during the witch’s research trip. The relationship between the awkward characters is totally adorable and is the focus of the story (even when dangerous monsters from other dimensions are opening portals to the human world). It’s a novella and a quick read. I loved how unusual it was.

This was such a unique romance, something I have read in a while. Monster romances are somewhat popular right now so I thought I would try reading one and I am so glad I choose this one. Trillin and Sian are just so cute together and I absolutely fell in love with Trillin. I didn't mind Sian, I actually enjoyed her chapters but Trillin's naivety and innocence just made her entertaining and endearing. Sometimes I did forget that she was a terrifying eldritch monster, so it was pretty funny when Cardno would mention tentacles and it hits me. The book is pretty short but liked that because it allowed the author to have a pretty meaty show more story with no fillers.

This was unfortunately just not that good. I liked the premise a lot, but the writing was not for me and it felt like nothing really happened. It was just too short. I bought a physical copy of this and it feels more like something that belongs on an e-reader. I didn't really buy the love at first sight from these two and there just wasn't enough here to sink my teeth into. It felt sort of shallow. If you read the description, you know what this book is. Someone You Can Build A Nest In is a much better version of this in my opinion. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't much. I love sapphic monster romances, but that alone isn't always going to be enough.
