This is supposed to be scary?
The art is ugly, but not creepy. The writing verges on so-bad-it's-good, but stays on the wrong side of that line with its silly Twilight Zone twists and the overheated cheese that passes for dialogue.
FOR REFERENCE:
Contents: Cast of Characters -- Presents ("The Birthday Present") -- Bukita-kun ("Lolita") -- Big Sis Sasori ("The Sasori Doll") -- The Haunted Examination Room ("Lovesickness") -- Fulfilled Wishes ("Happiness Hidden in the Dark") -- The Mysterious Tatari-chan ("Friends at the Smiling Gate") -- The Making of Kanako Inuki [interview] -- Inuki's Top Fives

Be Very Afraid of Kanako Inuki is a pretty interesting read if you're into horror with a twist. It has six stories that are meant to be scary, but honestly, I found them more emotional than terrifying—which actually made them more memorable. The artwork is really good and adds to the mood of each story. Kanako Inuki has a unique way of telling horror stories that feel intense without relying too much on gore or jump scares. Instead, the stories explore deeper themes and emotions, which I appreciated. The translation by Kevin Gifford flows well, making it an easy and engaging read. If you're looking for something different in the horror genre—something that blends creepy vibes with emotional depth—this is definitely worth checking out.
Weiiiiird, but cool and creepy! I love that these creators with large bodies of work are getting well done translations and repackagings in the US. Interesting stuff!
