A subtle old-fashioned story. Nothing really happens with the dragon, and the people are mostly sketches that fill roles in Falcon's life. It's just a story about how Falcon learns lessons about different kinds of love, and how she finally does become "mature for her age." Oh, and the 'troubled' family? Well, a little bit challenged, ok... but mainly by today's standards. In pioneer times, children of 11 would definitely be depended upon as caregivers for the younger one. Maybe the sequel enriches, but I won't bother to try to find it.
The Falcon's Egg is about a girl named EMily who was playing in a field and suddenly finds a glowing red egg but it was too hot to touch. She wants to bring it home, but she brought home a robin's egg before, and her mom made her put it back. She doesn't care though, she takes the egg anyway. You have to read it to find out what happens next!
This book is about a young girl name Falcon. She found a red, shiny, hot egg one day when she was out at the park. She decides to take the egg home and shared it with a selected few adults that does not include her mother. After Falcon and her aunt take care of the egg it hatches and her aunt identifies this egg as a dragon. Falcon lets the dragon free. Her troubles and worries were put aside as she was caring for the egg. But she is faced with a neglectful mother and stuck with taking care of the household and her younger brother. This book can be used for a science lesson that teaches how to take care of a egg before it hatches. it can show children the little things in life that can help one to be happy even though they are facing show more difficult problem and family situations. show less
