Not bad wordplay, but the book really has nothing to do with pirates other than the sheep are dressed in pirate costumes and the ship has a jolly roger. They don't do anything piratey. It could be any kind of ship. Also, during the storm, the ship doesn't seem to be sinking, just out of control. It makes little sense to chop off the mast and build a raft, which would be even more precarious in stormy seas.
Yet another grand slam by who is becoming one of my new favorite children's authors, Nancy Shaw. Once again, Nancy Shaw has her sheep setting out on an adventure; this time on the open seas as pirates with treasure. Nancy Shaw, once again, demonstrates her fun rhyming style matched with the wonderful illustrations of margot Apple. Once again, I find myself wishing I could do one of Nancy Shaw's books for my read aloud, but, clearly, I'm still set on Donald Crews.
Another fun picture book to go along with the Sheep collection. The rhyming along with the large illustrations create a great mood for younger readers especially reading in front of a larger class. Even the font is larger with shorter sentences to really allow the pictures to put together the whole story.
Very cute, funny series of books here :)
These books are full of easy rhymes. It makes a great early reader, as well as a great read-aloud for a younger preschooler or toddler.
In this book, the hapless sheep decide to go sailing like pirates! Cool, right?
Unfortunately, they're trapped in a sudden storm. It's all very exciting (and rhyme-y), but they get through it safely in the end.

Retelling: This is a rhyming tale of an unfortunate crew of sheep on a ship who nap when they should be navigating. Do they make it home safe? Read to find out.
Thoughts and Feelings: I like how this author plays with sounds. The words are fun to say. I wonder how fast I could read it without stumbling.

A workmanlike, actually boring, entry into a fun series. I might give it three stars, but I despise the pirate theme; pirates are very bad guys. LFL find.
The Sheep series is adorable. My children and I love these books!
