It has been some time since I last read a book so dark and biting to the core. The honesty forthcoming from Marlen Haushofer is astounding. This is a penetrating study for living in the world, and not necessarily in harmony with it. In fact, the opposite is true.
Being my first exposure to Haushofer I am indeed excited to read her other novels, especially her most well-known title of all, [b:The Wall|586852|The Wall|Marlen Haushofer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1435260852s/586852.jpg|573687]. Mit der "Tapetentür" hat der Zsolnay-Verlag ein Buch neu aufgelegt, dem die meist männlichen Kritiker der 50er und 60er Jahre nicht gerecht wurden, wenn sie in Annette nichts anderes sehen konnten als eine überempfindliche Frau und in Gregor einen nur schwach konturierten Mann, und das trotz der späten Würdigung, die es im Zuge der feministischen Rezeption erfahren hat, vielleicht immer show more noch unterschätzt wird. show less
