Everyone on Linda's T-Ball team has lost a tooth throughout the season. Linda is beginning to feel left out because she is the only one on her team who hasn't lost a tooth yet. Then finally, during the last game of the season, Linda loses her first tooth. This story shows the struggles and feelings children can have when waiting to lose their first tooth. It also conveys the message of patience because Linda's time came when it was right for her. ( )

This book keeps readers guessing how and why everyone is losing "one". One, you find out at the end of the book, is a tooth. You are not part of the real team until you have lost a tooth. Everyone loses their teeth at weird places and the whole entire book Linda worries when her time will come. She feels left out because she has not lost one yet and she can barely focus on the game. This is a great model to refer to for readers to try in their own writing. There were little clues throughout the book that made be think about different things that the author could have been referring to. Overall a really good book for teaching inference. ( )

I really liked the format of this book because it was different than any other picture book that I have read. The narrator is a girl named Linda who plays on a t-ball team. The book begins discussing that people on the team are losing things. Then, the book describes different players on the t-ball team and the situation where they lost “one.” It is not until the end of the book that Linda finally loses “one,” and the reader is told that all the children have been losing their baby teeth! I thought it was very interesting that I did not know what the children were losing until the very end of the book. It is a different format that I have seen in picture books, but I think it makes the book more suspenseful for the reader. The pictures were beautiful, and the illustrator kept up the charade of no one knowing what the children were losing until the very end. ( )

This is a fun book about how all the players on a T-Ball team are “losing” things. Each team member is losing this “thing” that the reader is not aware. Throughout the story the characters don’t want to be losing this thing. But at the end of the story when one character is getting worried that she hasn’t lost it yet, we begin to get a hint as to what they are losing. At the end when the character finally losses it, we learn that the whole T-Ball team has lost a tooth! I found this story really fun because at first the reader is lost as to what all the teammates are losing. But when you begin to look back at the illustrations you realize there were hints leading up to the ending. I think this would be a good book to read to students to demonstrate the importance of paying attention to small details, and how illustrations can give away what the story is trying to convey. I also think losing a tooth is something every child can relate to, so seeing how these characters deal with it can make for a fun read in a classroom. ( )

This is a lightheared story of something that all young children deal with. It really wasn't my favorite book, but I think that young children would easily relate and enjoy it.
