Hugh’s writing style is delightful, and he doesn’t take himself seriously in the least. He’s met a lot of famous people and drops names in the best possible way (matter-of-factly). I did find that the timelines jumped around a little bit in places, but in some cases Hugh acknowledged that he did it for dramatic effect, as with the helicopter story. The book contains two sets of photos, which is great, although the later-life photos appeared in the first set and I did wonder if the early-life photos should have been first. Based on what is in this book, I feel that Hugh and I might get along: he brings Paddington for photoshoots with friends, cares about spelling and punctuation (the “Rhys Ifan” story is good, because it’s also a matter of respect for the actors), and quotes Python (the “A møøse once bit my sister” line cracked me UP because it was so unexpected). If you like Paddington or Downton Abbey, you’ll probably like this book. (I liked it a lot and have not watched a full episode of Downton at all!) ( ) no reviews | add a review

HTML:A moving, laugh-out-loud memoir from one of todayâ??s best-loved British actors, whose credits include Downton Abbey, Notting Hill, and Paddington. From getting his big break as Third Shepherd in the school nativity play, to mistaking a Hollywood star for an estate agent, Hugh Bonneville creates a brilliantly vivid picture of a career on stage and screen. What is it like working with Judi Dench and Julia Roberts, or playing Robert De Niroâ??s right leg, or not being Gary Oldman, twice? A wickedly funny storyteller, Bonneville also writes with poignancy about his fatherâ??s dementia and of his mother, whose life in the secret service emerged only after her death. Whether telling stories of working with divas, Dames, or a bear with a penchant for marmalade, this is a richly entertaining account of his life as No library descriptions found. |
