The book is attributed to justly celebrated baseball authors Honig and Ritter, but if they actually wrote it, they kept their abilities on a rather short leash, as the prose is largely pedestrian right from the start and deteriorates by the final chapters to listings of the lineups of various pennant-winning teams. The photographs are the heart of the book, and are well-chosen; personally, I felt that their choice placed too much emphasis on portraits, and would liked to have seen more casual shots, action photographs, and images of fans and stadia. The book is a very pleasant browse, and even longtime readers of baseball books will probably find a few tidbits which are new to them. ( ) no reviews | add a review
