Zorian Kazinski is woken up by his sister, argues with his mother and takes the train to school for his third year. The first month is perfectly normal until the summer solstice approaches and he dies. Only to wake up on the first morning before the train. Again. And again. And again.

The Quatach-Ichl's soul attack has left the boys damaged and disrupted the start of current the time loop. Zorian is stuck without his magic and Zach is in a coma and has been stashed away by his guardian, Tesen. Zorian's going to need all his brains to find a plan that solves their current problems and fixes all their future ones.

This was an epic conclusion to the series. Zorian plots and plans and schemes to find the best outcome possible for them all and I adored it. His expansion into creating simulacrum's was hilarious - I loved their petty and bitter personalities - all looking to mess with the original. It got a bit insane with Zach's deal with the angels though. I'm a bit over angels to be honest. But it was bearable. The break of the time loop was intense. It was a bit sad and a lot crazy. I liked that they got out. I would've liked for them to be able to bring everyone with them though. On the other hand I didn't love the existential crisis this series has given me.

The world building is incredibly imaginative and insanely detailed. The characters are entertaining and vivid and the plot is breathtaking in its scope. Overall this series was an absolute pleasure to consume and is well deserved of its place as a prized gem of the progression fantasy genre. 5 stars. ( )

Well this was a very satisfying conclusion to the series.

Threads were tied off neatly but not too much so. I really don't like it if everything goes perfectly for the protagonist, it's nice to have a few openings that could come back to bit in the future. It's also really nice to have antagonists who aren't bloody idiots and actually acknowledge that they may not win so they put plans in place to their revenge anyway. And then there's that random bit of change that no-one could plan for that really has the potential to throws things into chaos.

Yes, this was a good read (and I'm glad that I'll be adding the deadtree versions to my library eventually) ( )
