Fiction. Mystery. Thriller. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:#1 New York Times bestselling author and "most popular mystery writer alive" (The New York Times) Janet Evanovich is in top form as she sends Stephanie Plum on the trail of a stolen cache of dirty diamonds.
Stephanie Plum, Trenton's hardest working, most underappreciated bounty hunter, is offered a freelance assignment that seems simple enough. Local jeweler Martin Rabner wants her to locate his former security guard, Andy Manley (a.k.a. Nutsy), who he is convinced stole a fortune in diamonds out of his safe. Stephanie is also looking for another troubled man, Duncan Dugan, a fugitive from justice arrested for robbing the same jewelry store on the same day.

With her boyfriend Morelli away in Miami on police business, Stephanie is taking care of Bob, Morelli's giant orange dog who will devour anything, from Stephanie's stray donuts to the upholstery in her car. Morelli's absence also means the inscrutable, irresistible security expert Ranger is front and center in Stephanie's life when things inevitably go sideways. And he seems determined to stay there.

To complicate matters, her best friend Lula is convinced she is being stalked by a mythological demon hell-bent on relieving her of her wardrobe. An overnight stakeout with Stephanie's mother and Grandma Mazur reveals three generations of women with nerves of steel and driving skills worthy of NASCAR champions.

As the body count rises and witnesses start to disappear, it won't be easy for Stephanie to keep herself clean when everyone else is playing dirty. It's a good thing Stephanie isn't afraid of getting a little dirty, too.

Both Ranger and Morelli said they want to marry Stephanie!!! ( )

Another Stephanie Plum caper where her trusty companion, Lula, and she go out to capture those who violated their bond and did not show up in court. This time, it seems like those FTA's were almost normal instead of having some quirky trait that always made them difficult to capture. Grandma Mazur, her family, and Morelli were mostly absent in this book. Bob, Morelli's dog, was more of an active character. Also, Lula scores a first and tags a bad guy during a firefight instead of shooting up the surrounding area and missing the perp.

Beyond working as a bounty hunter, the local jewelry store owner hires her to help retrieve a bag of diamonds that was taken during a robbery. Most of the story seems to follow that trail which takes a few twists and turns.

Stephanie is offered a one-night stand by two different workers and gets two offers for marriage from others. Will she accept? Oh yeah, and Lula finds a love interest, too. I guess we'll have to wait until book 31 to find out how it all turns out.

Still worth a read if you are in the mood for a zany read. ( )

I can't believe I've read 30 of these.

Desperately trying to catch up on books I've read in 2023, before it turns 2024. Don't think I'll make it. Full review (hopefully) to come later. ( )

Synopsis: 'Stephanie Plum, Trenton’s hardest working, most underappreciated bounty hunter, is having a dry spell. She’s hunting multiple fugitives from justice and (so far) has brought in a grand total of . . . none.
High on her list is Duncan Dugan, who was caught red-handed robbing Martin Plover’s jewelry store and promptly jumped bail. With Dugan in the wind, Plover offers Stephanie a freelance assignment. He wants her to locate his former security guard, Andy Manley (a.k.a. Nutsy). He is convinced that Nutsy stole a fortune in diamonds from his back-room safe on the same day that Dugan cleaned out the display cases in front. Two crooks, two crimes, plenty of problems.
With her boyfriend, Joe Morelli, away in Miami on police business, Stephanie is taking care of Bob, Morelli’s giant orange dog who will devour absolutely anything in his path, from Stephanie’s stray doughnuts to the upholstery in her car. Morelli’s absence also means the inscrutable, irresistible security expert Ranger is front and center in Stephanie’s life when things inevitably go sideways.
To complicate matters, her best friend, Lula, is convinced she is being stalked by a mythological demon hell-bent on relieving her of her wardrobe. An overnight stakeout with Stephanie’s mother and Grandma Mazur reveals three generations of women with nerves of steel and driving skills worthy of NASCAR champions. And both Morelli and Ranger are sending the message that it’s time for her to make a choice between them once and for all.
As the body count rises and witnesses start to disappear, it won’t be easy for Stephanie to keep herself clean when everyone else is playing dirty. It’s a good thing Stephanie isn’t afraid of getting a little dirty, too.'
