No one ever said that criminals were smart and this book certainly proved it. Zack Walker, science fiction writer, newspaper man, married to Sarah and father to Angie and Paul, just can't say no to trying to help out a friend. But...he always seems to get into trouble he didn't foresee but the reader certainly does. You want to scream at him to stop and think of all the bad things that can and are going to happen. This was exciting, impossible to out down, and yes, funny. Best one of his books that I have read.
Zack Walker isn't really liked by his boss. His heart isn't completely in writing for a newspaper but it pays the bills, during this story he ends up losing his job, putting some strain on his marriage, investigating his friend (who happens to be a Dominatrix) and her disappearance and trying to stay alive.
I liked Zack as a character, he's just trying to do the right thing but it just seems to get him in so much trouble. There are also some very clever quips and Barclay has an excellent way of putting things. I'm going to have to hunt up more books by him.

This is the 4th and final Zack Walker novel.
He is still getting into silly situations.
Trixie his old neighbour and friend needs his help when a shadowy figure called Gary from her past comes looking for her. She stole his money he was horrible to her. She escaped with her baby daughter
Also Paul is trying to work on a Health and Safety food violation being commited by local Burger Crisp a dodgy place owned by a Russian lady and her twin daughters.
At the end both groups come looking for Zack, They both want some of the money Trixie stole.
Lots of people end up dead.
Trixie gets her daughter back, Zack then tiries to make things up with his wife Sarah
OK bit silly book. Easy to read.

If trouble can find Zack Walker and those he loves, it will. This is an well- crafted tale of a newspaper reporter and his family and friends and all the troubles that befall Zack before finally coming to a good ending for him. I highly recommend Linwood Barclay books.
Zach Walker is an ordinary man who manages to find extraordinary trouble, although all he really wants to do is keep his family safe. I've really enjoyed Linwood Barclay's series, and I hope Zach will be back for more misadventures.
