It's admirable to have a play with mostly female characters, but they aren't entirely convincing, and the best parts of the plot and the most hilarious zingers come straight from the original. Simon's attempts to update this won't please present-day audiences, especially feminists. (For instance, my wife got frustrated that Florence's kids in the script are at camp instead of being with their dad, since we know several stay-at-home fathers who are great with their kids.) Entertaining enough for nighttime reading but not one I feel compelled to keep. ( )
