If you enjoyed Emma by Austen, then you’ll truly enjoy this book where we get to focus on Jane, and her secret love and engagement. Watts did an excellent job of bringing the characters and setting to life, truly embodying the spirit of it all that was originally brought into being in Austen’s Emma while still placing her own unique twist on it. I enjoyed seeing everything through a new lens, and getting to know Jane and Frank better. This book absolutely sits on my list of favorite classic retellings, and I highly recommend it to every Austen fan out there. ( )

My Dearest Miss Fairfax by Jeanette A Watts is a historical fiction novel that follows Miss Jane Fairfax, a young woman living beyond the means she was born into. When she meets the handsome Frank Churchill, who is in line to inherit his aunts fortune, the pair fall in love and hatch a plan to hide their relationship until the marriage is approved by the aunt. which will take far longer than the pair could have anticipated. Will the love between the two survive their social differences and small town attitudes?

This book is very well written and I found it easy to get lost in the pages. I’ve read some of Jane Austen’s work but not everything. I’m perhaps not the best person to compare this to those classics, but I did enjoy this take on Austen’s work. The characters are created with care and attention, also an eye on them being more real this time and less perfectionalised. ( )

I absolutely adore Jeanette Watts‘s my dearest Miss Fairfax. When Jane Fairfax meets Mr. Churchhill it is that a bittersweet time in her life.
Her best bolden friend and the girl she grew up with like a sister Sasha Campbell is now Sasha Dixon and will be going to Ireland and for the first time Jane will be on her own and although she has been attempting to apply for a Governess position with a respectable family it seems something always gets in the way. When Jane the Campbells in the newlyweds the Dixon‘s go to Weymouth before Sasha and her husband leave for Ireland. her and Jane decide to go shopping and this is when she meets the Gallant gentleman Mr. Harry Churchill. When Jane first sees him she thinks he is a perfect specimen of not just a man but a gentleman.so later that night at the ball Jane and Sasha cannot believe that he’s not only there but his uncle is good friends with Sacha’s dad and they are finally properly introduced. Jane and how we fall quickly for each other and they want to marry each other but they’ll have to keep it quiet because Mrs. Churchill doesn’t want to lose Harry at least not while she’s sick but how long will Jane wait? Will harry ever get his aunts consent to marry the beautiful Jane Fairfax? I loved this book and thought the author had such a great grasp on her historical facts and events but also the manners and topics I would imagine they spoke of back then. She not only had a great handle all the goings-on of royalty with the latest dances fads and trends. It is rare to find that sadly in a historical romance writer but I am so glad I found this one. I will definitely be reading through her catalog of books as I am anxious to get started. This is a definite five star read and even if you’ve never seen or read the book Emma you can still read this book and not feel as if you’re missing anything. I loved it and highly recommend it. If you love regency romance then you need to read “my dearest Miss Fairfax“ just know there is so much more to this book than the brief summary I put above and I mean a lot more than I loved all of it.
