Hilarious, rhyming, nice picture book. Historical in tasks, good for the autumn-turning-to-winter season.
This was a random pick from the library. (Well, I picked it up because I liked the cover.) The illustrations are beautiful, and the rhyme is good for a chuckle. My son really enjoyed it, but he didn't understand the end. He couldn't fathom why Mary would put the tea kettle on her husband's head, he maintained that the cat had to have done it! Oh, sweet innocence ...
It is a good realistic fiction because it shows the readers the daily life of a housewife in the midst of fall and winter. From the lady's behaviors, I learnt her good quality of working hard. And the ending that the husband is sitting in the rocking chair is a big contrast to what the lady is doing, which is humorous and exposes/ uncovered the essence of their marriage.
This book is written in poem form. It is written from the voice of the husband, who is telling his wife all of the things she needs to do to prepare for winter. He is being demanding and lazy, and gets his punishment at the end.
A great illustration about the work women have done over the centuries without receiving any credit. Funny ending.
This is such an odd, little book for kids!
This is a realistic fiction book because everything in the story is totally believable, but it wasn't written about someone in particular.
