Cute illustrations and a cute concept. But, although I really loved the first few pages of this, it seemed to fall flat over the course of the rest of the pages. The alliteration and wordplay just didn't flow as well in the latter portion of the book.
Chicky Chicky Chook Chook is a great read aloud book, full of onomatopoeic rhyming. The story follow little chick, kitties and bees as they frolic in the sun, nap in the “sleepy shine,” get stuck in the rain and dried in the returning sun. The illustrations, inspired by African art and culture, are painted and sponged onto brown butcher paper. They are bright and full of movement and the placement of the text on the page adds to the sense of rhythm and movement. Young children will enjoy this book being read aloud and imitating the sounds. A fun and creative board book.
Our son loves this book! He loves the alliteration in the story, and I love the pictures - bright colors that seem freshly painted on the page. At first, I didn't really understand why the bees were "buzzers" and the cats were "moggies," but now I find myself sing-songing my way through the book.

A very fun book to read aloud. Great way to introduce or showcase onomatopoeia. Illustrations are beautiful; seem so real you want to touch the fuzzy little chicks.
Wonderfully rhythmic and fun to read aloud.
The boys never cared for this book but my little girl loves it. The wordplay is okay, but the segmented, bug-type legs on the cats give me the creeps.
