This is definitely a book that I would read to my students on the first day of school. The rhyming scheme is very cute and kids would love it. The storyline is centered around bugs which kids think is humorous as well. Also, this is an extension of the Miss Spider series which have been very successful children's books. I enjoyed how the book took you through a typical day of school and introduced an emotion that the kids might not identify with yet... to be apprehensive about your skills. Miss Spider is down about her lack of abilities compared to the other students, something kids can identify with on the day of school. However, at the end of the book Miss Spider helps another bug out of a situation and she is rewarded by the teacher. show more The moral of the story is kindness is the best trait of all and this is something a teacher can remind his or her students of on the first day of school. show less
I love how this teaches children about school and how sometimes we can't do stuff, but that's okay. It is a great book to read to your children or students on the first day of school. It's a fun book to read; you can even sing it. The book can be spoken as a poem due to the rhyming structure. Another thing is that it is easy for children to read it to themselves because of how it flows.
As a child, I loved this book. Children can easily relate to this book because little miss spider was excited to start school, as many children are. However, as things became tough in school, she didn't want to give up. This teaches a great lesson to students to not give up in school when it gets hard. This book is also great with helping students getting a better understanding of rhyming. The author uses rhymes on every page. For example, the author wrote, "...A fresh flower plate, then ran the whole way to be first at the gate."

However, the excitement took a turn when she actually started school. show more She had trouble doing activities like hiding in trees, chirping like crickets, and humming like bees. Her principal praised her for being so kind and gave her a star as a reward. In the end, little miss spider knew kindness was something she was good at! show less
In this book Little Miss Spider can't wait for her first day of school. After arriving and trying out many different classes she feels as though she has no talent and school wasn't such a good idea. Just as the day is ending Little Miss Spider saves the day by rescuing another bug. She learns that being kind doesn't take a special talent and it's something she can be good at.
Has a lot of rhyming and tone and great for keeping kids engaged.
This is a good fantasy book because it teaches students that they all have different gifts and talents. It is unique by using insects to show their different talents/characteristics which also helps students to learn about insects. The images also add to the plot and helps engage the students.
Great illustrations! Good book for showing everyone has something different to offer.
