Description

"FORMLESS INTELLIGENCE" STANDSREADY TO CARRY OUT YOUR WISHES With this key principle, success pioneer Wallace D. Wattles (1860-1911) introduced the world to The Science of Getting Rich. This edition of Wattles' classic faithfully reproduces the author's complete text as originally published in 1910. A new introduction by popular voice of esoteric ideas Mitch Horowitz contextualizes the historical background of the author and his pioneering publisher Elizabeth Towne. Mitch's Afternotes show more following each chapter amplify Wattles' methods and provide powerful exercises and insights, including how to remove hidden blocks; experiments in "retrocausality;" receiving results through "established channels;" getting in touch with your most authentic desires, and ways to maintain a consistent mindset. Wattles' classic text teaches you: - How ideas shape the physical world. - Why creativity matters more than competition. - Why one passionately felt aim is the foundation of all achievement. - How your mental powers and practical abilities work together. - How to think in a "Certain Way" to guarantee success. - How the formless creative matter of life is acted on by your intelligence."The law of the Increase of Life," Wattles writes, "is as mathematically certain in its operation as the law of gravitation; getting rich is an exact science." In his brief yet seismically powerful volume, Wattles distills his insights-with the added benefits of the historical background and exercises found in this Maple Spring edition. If you are new to The Science of Getting Rich or if you're revisiting it for a refresher, here is the signature volume to experience. show less

There are a handful of good takeaways in this book, but you do have to hunt for them. The best one for me: be creative, not competitive.

The book didn’t remotely include science, and in fact urges people not to validate it by looking things up or researching—rather the opposite of the scientific method.

The majority of the book felt like a used car salesman selling a “name it and claim it” brand of watered-down “Christianity” (ha!) focused primarily on self. “God wants you to be rich!” “Don’t see, read, think, or talk about poverty, instead using your will to focus on what you want.” Yep, that’s the way to eradicate something, by putting blinders on.
I just rated this as 4 stars since I haven’t proven yet that the theories stated in this book are true. Overall, I love the way Wattles explained his theory by means of using simple lay man’s terms. He also uses a Christian perspective as an example which makes it easier for anyone to understand.

This book does not only open your mind to the possibility that being rich can be easily attained but it also explains in detail how to actually do it. It helps to overcome the common notion that being wealthy is applicable only for those who are already born rich. We have to start changing these negative perceptions by embracing the power of positive thinking and begin to act upon it.

Note: I’ve read an eBook version (Published April 19th show more 2007 by Tarcher) which is already simplified thus it’s easier to understand than the original one that was published in 1910. show less
I don't like the title. It's not really about "getting rich" but more about having abundance. ... also he advises you not to give to charity or to volunteer as being bad for money, I suppose... but an inspiring read otherwise.....
Just finished reading the book "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles. The book was written in 1910. This publication is by Joshua Books, Queensland Australia, printed in 2006. I did not realize it was a Christian book until I started to read it. I found it's terminolgy quite interesting. The principles described in the book are simple but profound. You could equate the author with "faith" teachers/preachers of today. His philosophy is based on scripture but it is presented in a different way that we are used to hearing. If you are not into the "Name it, Claim It" preaching you will not like this book. Wattles encourages you to "visualize" yourself as rich - having or walking in the things you desire. He believes that your show more mental creative powers will make the thing you desire, come to pass.

I thought it was an interesting read. Would give it 3 out of 5.

The Science of Getting Rich is a book written by the New Thought show more Movement. This book is "divided into 17 short chapters that explain how to overcome mental barriers, and how creation, rather than competition, is the hidden key to wealth attraction.

Why I picked this book up: I recently read Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking, Shinn’s The Game of Life and How to Play It by and Allen’s As A Man Thinketh and I wanted to compare them.

Thoughts: The author believes we ought to be rich, the works has enough stuff a d similarly, there is enough money, we ought to get rich not just to be satisfied but rich to buy all we want and basically knowing that you are creating your own experience with your thoughts and the actions that grow out of those thoughts I what this author is saying. I am not against having money but to me it sounded like he puts money above God and I know the Bible says, “The love of money is the root of all evil.” He said, the mental attitude of gratitude is the way to go about it. He says, be around wealth and it will be easier to get wealthy. He said that good things we have are because of obedience. He also said “Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you, I think it says that in James. This does not seem to be related to finances to me. He says say what you want, imagine it and it will be yours. He says always stay in the now, we can not be in the future or in the past so stay in the present and deal with things as they come in the here and now.

Why I finished this read: I really had a difficult time finishing this book, again I am not anti money and comparing Shinn’s book that dealt with money too was easy to finish and I was sad when it was over. This one seemed too self absorb and not godly. He even said, True faith is never boastful. Maybe I felt he was the opposite of what he just said. He tried to say not to seek selfish power and to give more to people at the same time it seems to be writing about it is out right, expectation and our behavior that are making usnwekthy.

I rated this book with 2.5 stars.

Very powerful reading. A book that you won't want to put down once you have started to read it. Though written years ago in 1910 to be exact, the message is still vibrant and fresh today and the principles can be adapted for today's life style. Wallace D. Wattles is basically saying that the real power and science of getting rich lies within everyone of us, we just need instructions or guidance how to use it to benefit us in our daily lives.
This is the original work that brought to light concepts like "law of attraction", the "Original Substance" i.e. God, impressing your thoughts on the "Thinking Substance", etc. and it was published in 1910 (!) Later books like "Think and Grow Rich" and the latest "bestsellers" like "The Secret", are simply extensions of this primal book. Read it, practice it, be wealthy beyond the simple possession of "stuff". This is a book for your mind and your spirit.
