Shit Magnet: One Man's Miraculous Ability to Absorb the World's Guilt
by Jim Goad
On This Page
Description
Goad, one of the most controversial media figures in recent years and author of 'The Redneck Manifesto', spent the last few years in prison for punching his girlfriend - a sentence increased because his published writing and satires were used as evidence of criminal intent. During his sentence he wrote 'Shit Magnet', a reflection on the remarkable events that led to his success and downfall. Exploring guilt, and how it is used to create scapegoats, this is an intense, emotional and show more philosophical analysis of the reality behind our supposed 'cultural progress'. show lessTags

I'd give it 5 stars if Goad spent more time discussing his time in prison (interesting) and less time kvetching about his ex (zzzz). But he's a tremendously gifted writer regardless of subject matter.
Jim Goad is a man who did some questionable and, at times, violent things in his past, but his biography lays his life bare before the reader. Never shy from the controversial, the former editor of the now infamous 'zine ANSWER ME!, does not hesitate to talk about how terrible things in his life affected him.
