A Boy Wants a Dinosaur

Grandfather gets Alex a dinosaur that wreaks havoc, of course, not only at home but in town until she finds a companion in the forest and Alex lets her go... and wakes up from his dreams to ask grandfather for a rabbit.

Funny and surrealistic fable.

This is a story about a boy named Ben who had a dream that his grandfather had bought him a pet dinosaur. The dinosaur, Fred, who was female, ended up causing more trouble than what she was worth. When Ben awoke, he decided that just a plain old regular pet would be sufficient.

I really enjoyed the illustrations in this book. The pages were very detailed and you could pretty much read the story without even looking at the text. The story flowed easily from one page to the next and it was funny and interesting as well.

I would use this in the classroom if I were giving a lesson on animals that make good pets. I might also ask the classroom to do a journal writing or make an illustration of the pet of their dreams.
