Baron Jim Eckert, a 20th-century mathematician in a magical, parallel medieval world, defends his realm. When the Gnarlies' King and a rival earl kidnap his adopted son, Robert, Jim must shift into his dragon form, Gorbash, to rescue him.

The faerie King of the Gnarlies and the Earl of Cumberland unite to target Jim's son.
Jim, Baron de Bois de Malencontri et Riveroak, and his wife, Angie, work to reconcile their 20th-century sensibilities with the medieval, magical reality.
I kept getting muddled with the abrupt changes in either characters, viewpoints or times.
