Lotti loves books, but has trouble making friends with real people. When she finds out another classmate loves to read, too, they bond over their favorite stories. Lotti concludes that while she's still shy, that doesn't mean she can't make friends, especially with a new kid who's also shy.

This message will resonate with bookworms, of course, but the absolute wow factor is just how many real books the author-illustrator crammed into each page, and the level of detail and care with which each is rendered.

Back matter includes an author's note, a huge stack of books ("Here are man of my most favorite books ever. Are any of these your favorites too?"), and a recipe for Lotti's Friend-Making Cookies. ( )
