This book started off well. A sleazy preacher/banker is killed by a crooked cop who then chases after the preacher's wife who participated with a small gang in robbing her husbands bank of a million. The crooked cop intends to keep the money for himself. Cicero Grimes is a promising character that I was hoping would out do the crooked cop, which is what sort of happens. But less than 100 pages into the story begins a long section describing the mind games the cop was playing on Grimes. The story is then dominated by the maudlin psychological states of Cicero particularly concerning his brother. At the end, even the cop turn maudlin. There is plenty of violence and nasty descriptions of the bodily fluids that result from violent death. show more But the main impression of this book is maudlin boo-hoo psychology. show less
