Description
"In 2018, novelist Jami Attenberg, faced with a looming deadline, needed motivation. Using a boot camp model, she and a friend set out to write one thousand words every day for two weeks. They opened this practice to Attenberg's online community, and soon hundreds--then thousands--of people started using #1000WordsofSummer to track their work and support one another. It features advice from more than fifty beloved writers, including New York Times bestsellers, Pulitzer Prize winners, and stars of the literary world. Framing these letters are words of wisdom and encouragement and specific strategies from Jami for carving out a creative path for yourself all year round. No matter where you are with your practice, 1000 Words compels you to open to any page and find a fulfilling hit of inspiration"-- The book extension of the growing writer's movement and challenge to write 1,000 words a day helps readers and writers discover how to uncover their creative desires and stay motivated and offers advice from over 50 well-known writers. show lessTags

I will always read books in 808.02 section, I love books on writing. Bonus points for sharing the same name as a song from my favourite Final Fantasy game, X-2 ♡
This one wasn't for me though. It's full of bits of wisdom and motivation from so many authors and Jami Attenberg herself. She's broken it up into the seasons which she's explained are ways to view your work. It was a nice idea, but it didn't feel very strong enough of a theme. Really, most of these little bits of encouragement and everything can be taken at any point of your journey. That's the beauty of this book! Open a page and sit with it, try it if it suggests something, but mostly get to writing.
I love how show more readable it is. It's all broken up into short bits, plenty are a page or two, barely longer. However, this was a slog for me, probably because I'm sick so focus is hard. It wasn't resonating with me, but I love what Attenberg has created with #1000wordsofsummer and the community she created.
It's worth a read, as any craft book. And with any craft book it's taken with a grain of salt as their way might not be your way. I hope if you do read it, it's everything you need to get you through your first 1000 words and the next and the next. show less

In June, the sixth version of this communal two-week practice starts with a daily letter of encouragement from the author. The book uses the four seasons of the writer's cycle to discuss creativity, motivation, drafting and publishing.
