Every city should have a book like this, written by insiders with an attitude and an eye for the quirky facts and attractions that go beyond the standard tourist fare, for the good things--and annoyances--that make a city what it is. This book starts off with a fantastic introduction to Montreal landmarks and destinations, that despite being published in 2003(!!) is still pretty relevant. It bogs down a bit in the restaurant section, since many of the places mentioned no longer exist and that section is written by a restaurant critic whose writing style isn't as lively as the main authors, but it gets back on track before the end. The sidebars, which tend to focus on Montreal's ample bounty of crime and corruption are some of the best show more parts of the book. So if you're interested in Montreal, this is a must read. It isn't your usual travel guide and, as such, it hasn't date nearly as much. I loved it. show less
