Rotenberg used the real WW II incident in Gubbio, Italy as the basis for a mystery kicked off by a murder on a Toronto street. The plot revolves around the children of Nazis who immigrated to Canada in the1950's trying to keep the war crimes of their parents from being exposed by Holocaust survivors.

Ari Greene, the Jewish Toronto homicide detective who is the regular hero of Rotenberg novels, finds his parent's Holocaust background influences his perspective in this case. An extremely readable mystery that is difficult to put down once the reader reads page one. As a bonus, the reader learns much about Nazi war crimes in Europe, and especially in this case, Italy.
