Book 6 of the 'Callisto' series and Lin Carter comes up with perhaps the one really great original idea he ever had - he writes himself, fantasy/sci fi author Linwood Vrooman Carter, into the story as the titular hero Lankar.
Egotistical? Maybe, but Carter is sufficiently self-mocking to pull this off although whether a 45 year old heavy smoker with a major caffeine (and who knows what else) addiction really has what it takes to be a swashbuckling hero on one of Jupiter's moons is arguable to say the least.
Funny and entertaining anyway, one of the best in this series.
