MAKING HAY offers a lovely testimonial to the Alfalfa farmers, their lands, animals, and baling helpers in the Midwest.

Ah, what fun to climb on those high rounded bales at the top of a hill in Hollandale, Wisconsin!
I could not follow the author's train of thought. Almost every sentence was a tangent, but there was no base from which they sprung. My mother read it first and loved it, but I could not finish it.

Perhaps part of the problem is that I've been reading works by farm boy [a:Michael Perry|2772479|Michael Perry|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1231631186p2/2772479.jpg] and the memoirs [b:The Crops Look Good: News from a Midwestern Family Farm|23604094|The Crops Look Good News from a Midwestern Family Farm|Sara DeLuca|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1431177602s/23604094.jpg|43205774] and [b:The Country Kitchen|1447423|The Country Kitchen|Della T. Lutes|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1266805048s/1447423.jpg|1438128] and others, and show more so I have a certain expectation. Still, I'd recommend any of those over this, even had I finished this. show less
