Jessie Warden, a former FBI agent convicted of murdering his partner and robbing the evidence locker, is released from prison to infiltrate a suspected Aryan cult. The inference is the only one who could have set him up was his former boss, Dan Barker.

As the novel progresses, Jessie settles in with a widow and her daughter assigned to him by the local preacher, a real charismatic piece of work. In short order he quickly moves up in the only big business in town, Wood Products and convinces the pastor Coldwater and his thugs that he's legitimate and not a gov'y spy.

Well written, with believable characters, enough scene development to give the reader a clear view of the local environment and its people and a compelling story to boot.

This show more was a thoroughly enjoyable read and well worthy of the Stuart Woods name. show less
Breakneck speed implausibilities exacerbated but the abridgement, which version I did NOT realize I was borrowing. It is possible this opinion reflects the abridgement rather than the tale.
One of Stuart Woods best non-series books, showing his writing chops withourt having to rely on Stone Barrington or Holly Barker. A must-read for any Stuart Woods fan.
Implausible thriller, but an interesting read
