I received a free advanced copy of this book from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

A fun adventure that’s a scifi take on the ages old battle between cats and dogs. I love the title of this book and what kid wouldn’t want to read about cats and dogs in space battling it out for planetary domination! It’s a fast and funny read with one of the best lines being “In Space, no one can hear you meow.” This book will definitely find readers with fans of Erin Hunter’s Warriors series.

Written by my 8-year-old:
"In my opinion it was a good book. One of the things I liked about it was how it changed points of view. It made it a lot more interesting. However, I don’t understand what drives the dogs not to like the cats. Why should we take the dog’s side? What did the cats ever do to them? I would recommend this book to kids around my age (8)."

My daughter said this book is awesome! It has everything in it including adventures, battles, rescues, and more! It is very exciting to read. My favorite part is when the cats dress up as dogs to help the others escape but you'll have to read it to find out the twist ending. Were looking forward to the sequel!

A very simple story definitely meant for a younger target demographic than myself. The motivations of the dogs are not entirely clear and there are quite a few groups to keep track of. It is a quick read, so perhaps I just didn't feel there was enough time to get deeply in to some plot points --there were several instances where the same information is repeated in quick succession, however, so it was not for lack of available space. That being said, I think it was brilliant first attempt from a young author and I would strongly encourage them to continue as this really shows potential. I look forward to tracking their future works.
Puns and idioms were show more absolutely hilarious and definitely the best part of the narrative. Very clever. I think a young reader would definitely get some joy out of this. show less

The cover is absolutely adorable and instantly engaging, and kudos to Shayne Price for the impressive accomplishment of writing a novel at such a young age. The premise—cats in space—is fantastic and full of potential. Unfortunately, despite my love for both cats and space, I found it difficult to get absorbed in the storyline.

I had a feeling I knew precisely what I was getting when I got a copy of Space Cats: Making Enemies by Craig A. Price and Shayne Price. A story about cats, in space.

It was exactly that. Aside from the wonky AI-generated cover and the uncanny AI-generated audiobook narration, the story was exactly as it delivered: your typical cat vs. dog story, where cats are the good guys and dogs are the drooling, smelly bad guys.

If you have a little one who likes cats or animal stories, this may be up their alley. But that's pretty much the only audience I would recommend this book to. Though, I would recommend against the audiobook, as occasional "Get it off me!" said in monotone voice is more annoying than amusing.

the story was pretty simple for an adult the hardest part was keeping straight who was on which side because it wasn't just dogs and cats but civilian, corporate, and military of each. at least half the third star was for effort. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to give the authors a chance the finesse their craft.
