The Stupid series have all been challenged. In this book, The Stupids Die, everything they do is backwards. The children are mowing the carpet, and using a sprinkler inside. The whole family showers together while eating breakfast. Every page of this book has the word stupid on it. I can understand why this book has been challenged. As children, we are taught that stupid is not a nice word, and that we should not call other people stupid. While this is a silly book about nonsense things, I would not want my child reading the word stupid and associating it with funny things.
First of all, the little world presented by Allard and James would make any child want to read this. It is interesting to find what is wrong with each page according to the text and its “matching” illustration. The lesson here could be how obvious wrong and right are from one another. Very entertaining and engaging read.
The Stupids die, another piece from the team of James Marshall and Harry Allard, tells how when the Stupids experience a power outage, they think they've died. It just occurred to me, while tagging this book, that it's rather difficult to come up with tags for this book--because nothing really happens. However, life with the Stupids is never dull, and in this visit with the Stupids, Grandfather Stupid reveals that the Stupids reside in Cleveland (but how much trust can we put in Grandpa's bearings?). This Stupids production makes its illustration style more transparent than in other Stupids books--colored pencil and marker, with ink outlines. The grain of the colored pencil is completely obvious here, which I hadn't noticed in other show more Stupids books. If there's extra cash in the budget that your library's trying to use, then add this to your collection. But if your funds are tapped out, well, then, you're not missing anything major. show less

A hilarious story about a family named the Stupids who seem to complicate and confuse everything that they do. In this story when they fall asleep they think they have died! This is a great story for children to read that is not only educational; it also teaches valuable lessons and gives a sense of humor to reading.
The Stupid’s Die is a book about a family. One day Mr. Stupid wakes up and she that something stupid is going to happen that day. The family goes through the whole day thinking that something is going to happen, but nothing does (at least for them). But everything that happens is “stupid”.

As a reader I found the book very entertaining. It is a comical book with comical illustrations. I like how this very un-average family thinks that everything that they do is normal.

As a teacher I could use this book to show what typical families do not do. This book is a perfect example of what not to do during the day. It can also be used to show my students that it is wrong to call people stupid. Just because someone does something different show more does not mean that they are stupid. show less
When Mr. Stupid wakes up and says, “Something really stupid is going to happen today!”, you know it will. In this book the Stupids are up to their usual hijinks when a fuse blows. While the dog and cat fix it, the rest of the family thinks they’ve died. Luckily they figure out that they haven’t.

This is a book that can actually be used to stop children from calling one another stupid. You can explain that The Stupids are a fictional family- your classmate does not eat breakfast in the shower, therefore, he/she is not stupid, etc.
A crazy story about the Stupid family and their troubles when the lights go out in their house!
