Ruth Heller incorporates her artistry into the explanation of adverbs in Up, Up, and Away. There is a lot of information in this book so I don't think this is a book I would hand to kids when they were just learning about adverbs. I may turn it into an interactive read-aloud or break the book up into pages and somehow have the children come up with ways to represent this book's key ideas. Adverbs are often something kids have a hard time catching onto, but I think that if they have resources like this book at their fingertips they will get a unique introduction to the topic and it may stick more than an informational text would. The book began with a clear statement of a grammatical focus along with its definition. At the end of the show more book there are teaching tips. show less
This book can be used to introduce adverbs to students as well as help them with their writing.
