Description

A tough princess meets her match—a rugged bodyguard—in the third book of the royally entertaining series from the New York Times–bestselling author.

When it comes to the wild Kingdom of Alaska, in a reality where Russia never sold the territory to the United States, a Rodinov has always protected the Baranov royal family. And Jeffrey, born and raised to be the next in the long and illustrious line of protectors, is not about to let the tradition fail with him.

But Princess Nicole show more isn't exactly the easiest charge: an expert at hunting who's sharp as nails, stubborn as a bull, and completely convinced she doesn't need anyone watching her back. Even worse, she's got the most kissable lips Jeffrey has ever seen.

What Nicole really needs is a man with the perfect combination of brains and brawn to show her the royal ropes (and cuffs . . . and scarves . . .). Someone who can make her feel like a queen—in bed and out of it. And, after all, taking care of the royal family is exactly what Rodinovs are trained to do . . .

In another sparklingly delightful regal tale from the New York Times–bestselling author of the Undead series, the madcap Baranovs will discover that a princess's heart is much harder to protect than her crown . . .

I really wanted to like this because the premise - Alaska is its own country - was so intriguing. The first book in the series wasn't too bad but with each successive book I kept wondering why I had wasted my money (and/or swap points). The language - both content and delivery - is terrible and totally unrealistic on so many levels. The lack of character development did not help; I found I could really care less about few of them. And, of course, the gratuitous sex. All of which makes me so very glad that the author's contract with the publishing company ran out so there will be no more of these. And if there are I certainly won't be reading them.

The last book in the Alaskan Royals series was possibly the best one yet. The king discovers he has fathered a daughter he knew nothing about, and once he learns of her he tries to force her into the family fold. She turns out to be just as strong-willed and feisty as he is. Throw in a lot of humor and some romance and you have yourself an excellent read.

This is MaryJanice Davidson's third Alaskan Royal book. It takes place in a parallel universe in which the author wondered: "What if Alaska was its own country, with a weirdo royal family?"

The Baranovs are the rulers of Alaska, down-to-earth tabloid magnets who are hilariously strange (fortunately, the funny ha-ha rather than the funny farm). However, the king is shaken up when out of nowhere, a bastard daughter writes a letter to him explaining who she is due to her dying mother's last wish. Nicole Krenski only wrote the letter as a favor for her mother, but it is that very letter that propels her into the front of the cameras and into the royal family's life. Nicole wants nothing to do with the royal family, but they insist that she show more live with them. To convince her, the king sends in one of the bodyguards, Jeffrey Rodinov, whose family has served the royal family for generations. (more) show less
I like the Royal family of Alaska. They're totally unbelievable, but fun, kind of like the Betsy books. A very light read and nothing unexpected, so at least 4 stars. I was disappointed to find out that this was to be the last book in the series. I was hoping that each child would get a book, and with 5 kids, there was potential for more fun. Perhaps the characters will rebel and we'll get to hear about the rest of them in time.

Why read: Finishing up the trilogy

What impressed me: I loved revisiting with the family and all their kooky ways. The Alaskan Royal family series is awesome with alternative history details and great humor, and The Royal Mess absolutely follows the trend.

What disappointed me: The Royal Mess isn't the end of the trilogy as much as a companion novel to the two previous books. It was disappointing to read about a romance between a new couple as opposed to someone already in the family.

Recommended: Yes, but you may want to read the previous two books first to really experience the details.
Great fun light read. Hilarious! This is the last book in the series so far, I wish there were more. This book is light hearted and has no deep moral questions or dilemmas to ponder. Just fun and light.
What a very fast read this book was. I thought this book was a little rushed compared to the other two. I still liked this book, I just think it was a little rushed. Hopefully she keeps the series going since there are more prince's and princesses to write about.
