Such Lovely Skin

3.5 stars. Such Lovely Skin is a fast paced, easy to read, video game fueled horror adventure. Schlote-Bonne is a really capable writer. I particularly enjoyed Ash and Bri, the main character’s sidekicks, because they are easy to empathize with and root for. There’s plenty to like about it!

But here’s the thing. I wanted more demons! When the demon was on page, it was terrifying, and had me nervously looking over my shoulder while I read. But there were moments in between the scarier scenes where I felt like it dragged a little, and I started to feel a bit bored. However, teen readers might feel differently as they’re more likely to get invested in the character dynamics than I did.

The main character, Vivian, was so self show more absorbed that it was difficult at times to root for her, unlike her delightful sidekicks. While I liked the ending, I didn’t love the way the epilogue resolved, as I felt like it made what had already happened in the story less meaningful.

I think I’d recommend Such Lovely Skin to teens who love video games, want something fast paced and easy to follow, and who don’t mind sad subject matter, because this book is primarily about grief and guilt. show less

Stay Alive meets Jeepers Creepers if he were to feast on your guilt and sanity instead of body parts.

I understand why some people wouldn't enjoy this, definitely being a gamer and using Twitch + Discord as a means to socialize helps one to love this book entirely. There were emojis throughout some places in the book to show communication via Twitch, Discord, and Texting as we do naturally.

But, if you're like me, who related to this FMC 100% then you will fall madly in love with this book. I loved how Tatiana created this whole new game in her book that is a lot like Stay Alive which was one of my favorite movies ever. I know I used Jeepers Creepers as an example and she even uses that movie to describe a show more characters truck.

I know this book isn't for everyone but, gaming community, especially my horror gamers; this is THE BOOK. Take a chance, give her a try. I know you won't regret it.

I really wanted to love this, premise wise it's fun! The dialogue got kind of repetitive in sections. I think there were some really bright spots, but could use some editing and shaping
