Description

A housewife, a tramp, a lawyer, a waitress, an actress - ordinary people living ordinary lives in New York at the beginning of this century. The city has changed greatly since that time, but its people are much the same. Some are rich, some are poor, some are happy, some are sad, some have found love, some are looking for love. O. Henry's famous short stories - sensitive, funny, sympathetic - give us vivid pictures of the everyday lives of these New Yorkers.

In this book, we can share several feelings with some New Yorkers in really different surroundings. Each story shows their love, hope, and sometimes disappointment in daily lives in that big city. Though main characters are relatively familiar people, their stories look really fresh and special. We can keep reading this until the last sentences without getting bored, thanks to the wit and irony.
This book has five stories and they all have great senses enough that readers hurry toward the last page unconsciously. Also, it was interesting that I could read together several kinds of stories about different people in one book. After reading, I could draw a small picture of New York in my mind, combining those colorful pieces together.
