Summary: Laura just moved to New York City. One night she sees a shooting star crash down to Earth and she goes after it. She finds it in the park and discovers that during its landing, one of its points was broken. She takes him home and puts a band aid around the point to fix it. Her younger brother, Tommy discovers that the star has the power to make people fly and bring stuffed animals to life. Laura becomes best friends with the star, but one day realizes that its powers weaken the longer it stays on Earth. She is forced to send the star back into the sky but he always looks down on her.

Review: The reason why I wanted to include this book is because it was my absolute favorite book growing up. The illustrations show more are enchanting and are perfect for the book. This book teaches about the common struggle of letting go. My mother sent it up to Oregon when I told her that I needed to read it for an assignment. Reading it again was so much fun! If you haven't read it yet, it really is a must read. show less

Would you like to know a secret? For half my life, I was not Josephine, I was called Laura. This was one of the few books I received shortly after the name change and one of my favorites. The books about Josephine were far better, '[b:Jennifer and Josephine|355591|Jennifer and Josephine|Bill Peet|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1348452179s/355591.jpg|875488]' and '[b:Josephine's 'Magination|6320469|Josephine's 'Magination|Arnold Dobrin|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1319256209s/6320469.jpg|5070552]' stand out, and were far more my speed, but this one held up alright.
It's about a girl who finds a star and - if I remember correctly - she takes a self-built spaceship into the night sky and sets it back amongst it's show more friends. (It was a popular children's book series and even had a run as a cartoon!)
I've never had much use for stars in my reviews. On my book blog I've never used them. Taking instead an idea from a blog I love to simply recommend whether you read a book or not, whether you should buy a book or not. It's time I carried it over, because these stars, which rate passion rather than quality, do not belong to anyone other than ourselves. I don't want to tolerate my star ratings being mined for data. Whether for sales on amazon, or to be handed over in the future to those operating under the Patriot Act. GR exists in America, home of the free, after all.
The link is tenuous at best, but inspired by this children's picture book, I will be removing the stars and no longer rating with them on GR.Those that exist have already been loaded onto the servers, but they will not all be relevant in a years time. And in ten years - who knows.
I recommend you buy this book, the English translation most likely, for a girl named Laura, or any child you know who is interested in space or the stars. You may enjoy reading it yourself. If you have no children in your life, borrow it from the library. I really liked it. show less

Laura's Star was one of my favorite books when growing up. Laura is a lonely girl, longing for a friend to share all her secrets with. One night she see's a sparkling star fall from the sky, whens he retrieves the star she see's that a point fell off and she brings it to her room to mend it back together. The next morning the star is gone, and Laura becomes very upset. Though when she goes to bed that night the star has returned.
The illustrations in the story fit the written text and enhance the meaning of the story. The message of the story is to help children understand the meaning of friendship and that sometimes you need to do things for your friends even if that something means the world to you.

Laura is lonely and is looking for a friend. One night she discovers an injured star that had fallen to the ground. She decides to take it home and make sure it gets better. Once its better, it disappears from her bed and back into the night sky. She sees it one night and knows she is not alone.

Molto carino
