The Murderers

I love Griffin's writing, and I love this Badge of Honor series. This is the sixth book in the series, and by now I'm getting to know Matt, Peter, Jason and the boys pretty well. I do not recommend reading this book as a stand alone book. It is much better as part of a very entertaining series. Most of Griffin's magic comes from his character building, and it takes time to get into the lives of the wonderful characters he creates. This book is also leaving a very large stepping stone into the next book, so I can't wait to read that one. Griffin opens the door with a glimpse into the world of cop corruption. In this book we also see Matt coming of age a bit as he experiences some truly tragic events. This is an excellent series, and one show more that I am enjoying mightily. show less

I seem to be enjoying the Badge of Honor series, but Griffin has really produced some dragging plots here. This was a long book that could have been made shorter, but for the author's writing syle--there are many repeats and summaries along with characters reading written summaries--one described a room and it's content in very much detail. I'm not sure why? There are many characters, revolving around each other and sometimes they get lost in the reader's mind. As always, the book doesn't climax, it just ends, leaving the reader to wonder who dunnit? I should give up on this series and go on to something I enjoy, but I'l try book #7..

This series really took off again with this entry. I love how Griffin expertly laid out the investigative process used by the Philly PD to solve the murder cases in this book, and the characters seemed to really shine in the process.

Griffin has now settled down in this series to be mostly about crime, especially murder. The love lives of the two principal officers are also shaping up. The murder stories are told rather matter-of-factly but the plodding police work reveals just how it happens.

My latest read, me hearties, and it be done read on talk like a pirate day. It be a decent plunder, but there be better in the sea. It have cops, and there be murders. It be part of a series, and it don't stand so good on its own. Arrrr, I shouda read the others first.

This is the sixth book, of 10 books, in the series, The Badge of Honour, and was published, Nov 1995. The series is about the City of Philadelphia police force, including the Philadelphia Highway Patrol, from the cop on the beat, right up to the Commissioner. An officer of the Five Squad of the Narcotics Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department is shot and killed in his home. The ensuing investigation suggests the whole Five Squad maybe corrupt. Quick read and lots of action.

This book has the same group of Philadelphia police officer and the are involved in identifying the murder of an of duty officer in his home. His estranged wife and her lover (another policemen) are suspect. Also there is double murder of a restaurant partner and the wife of the partner. Matt Payne is involved in the detective work and one of the partners dumping the weapons in the river.
