The picture book, The New Teacher, is a great book to read to your students if you become the "new teacher". I really liked this book for three reasons. First, the characters are relatable within the book. “Then,” said Jim, “then she screams and hollers, ‘READ! Don’t you know how to read?’’ “That’s not funny, “Danny said. He couldn’t read. It didn’t really seem funny to Jim. He couldn’t read either”. This scene on the playground perfectly depicts how young kids bully each other. Next, I really liked the lessons that students can take away from this book. My favorite lesson that a student can take away from this book is to treat your friends, classmates, and teachers with respect. Lastly, I really liked the illustrations in this book. They gave you the opportunity to know what was going on throughout the book before even reading the text. The emotion on the kids and teachers faces powerfully depicted how they felt. Overall, the main idea of this book is to welcome a new teacher into the classroom with respect and to give him/her a fair chance. ( )
