A fun book reminding children to get outside and find ways to enjoy it even if you would rather play video games. There is continuity in the illustrations that would make a fun searching game. Recommended for autumn or to redirect when students want to be on electronics instead of playing. 3.5 stars because it was, imo, slightly more creative and richer than the other O'Malley I just read, [b:Bud|631976|Bud|Kevin O'Malley|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1312040215s/631976.jpg|618285]. Works for me as a mom who chased her sons outdoors, and would have worked for my sons when they were young. I still prefer the LOL O'Malley like [b:Gimme Cracked Corn and I Will Share|1777906|Gimme Cracked Corn and I Will Share|Kevin O'Malley|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317064464s/1777906.jpg|2749175]. And omg, if you think it's wrong for kids to complain and say something is 'stupid' when there are no adults around, you're so naive I ache for your children. I'm sorry if you think I'm being offensive, but the truth is these kids are innocent and sweet compared to most, most of whom turn out just fine. The Lucky Leaf has a fun story but fails to complete its initial mission of showing children the excitement of playing outside. I would use this book for a class read-aloud because it would generate good discussion and because I would likely omit the last page of the book, which I believe contradicts the whole story. This story was funny. The boy is forced from his video games and told to go outside, which he doesn't like. He and his friends stand under a tree with one leaf remaining, thinking that catching the leaf is lucky. His friends slowly give up and the boy eventually catches the leaf and decides to wear the leaf on his head for luck the next time he plays his video game. Simple story, but still amusing. This book is very interesting. The book is written using cartoon bubbles, which is interesting. In the story the child calls himself stupid, which I'm not sure is something my kindergarteners would just let go. It is very modern in the way that the kids are mad because they have to go outside and miss their video games. I do think this modern feel is what could get kids interested in the story because it relates to them. no reviews | add a review
