I picked this up a few years ago and just came across it as I'm packing and organizing for the house I just bought. This book has information in a kind of "the way things work" format, because knowing how everything is put together allows you to see and fix problems. It has plenty of both fixing and preventing problems tips, and diagrams help illustrate the author's explanations. It is from 1977, so it's a little out of date (not too many people need to know how to fix a record player any more), and it won't tell you what to do about your microwave.
