Description
Royal Scoundrel is the prequel novella between Charles's dads. Even though it takes place twenty years before the Frat Wars books, it's best enjoyed last. DASH Archibald Levine the third is a pain in my ass. Rich, cocky and the closest thing to a prince that our school has. I hate everything about his entitled attitude and the stupid Kappa crown he wears. I also hate the gigantic crush I have on the guy. One night, backed up by the courage of tequila, my mouth gets away from me and I offer show more him the one thing he can't stop thinking about. Me. On my knees. Because Archibald Levine also has a secret, and one kiss between us seals his fate. The fling between us can never go anywhere, not with his powerful and homophobic father, but we don't let it stop us from indulging at every opportunity that we get. I also don't let it stop me from falling stupidly in love with the guy. He's always made it clear he can never come out and I know we're destined for destruction. After all, happily ever after doesn't exist between a prince and a scoundrel. show lessTags

“Are you trying to give me an aneurysm?” “Actually, I’d rather give you an orgasm, but I can try to give you one of those too.”

Overall reco:
After reading Zeke and Charles, Dash and Archie were.. perfect? I wasn't exactly expecting to like this as much as I did, and it really gave a whole new perspective on Charles. Really, I probably could have read more about Dash and Archie. They were a mess, but loveable. I didn't feel the normal ich I tend to feel with the billionaire power dynamics and maybe that's because it was MM or maybe because I love Saxon James? Maybe both. My only complaint is that the book wasn't longer.
There are 3 novels in the Frat Wars series, plus this one, #3.5, released in February 2025.
I read this before I realised it was about Charles's dads! Oh how interesting! Makes me want to read Charles's story again (Frat Wars: Presidential Chaos). Though to be clear, Charles doesn't get a mention till the epilogue here.
This novel threw a spell over me! The dads are Dash and Archi and it's an epic love story. They meet at college and socially they have nothing in common except that college is a great leveller where they meet people they wouldn't normally, including each other.
They do have one big thing in common - they are both cocky, confident players, yet vulnerable. And when they finally do talk, about a year after they first notice show more each other, from the start they know they can talk freely and secrets will be kept. This is initially their bond, but that grows much, much deeper as they show each other their vulnerabilities.
Archi, for all that he has, wants to love, protect and defend someone - it's so touching. I loved that he forbad Dash from objectifying, or bad mouthing himself, a habit he'd developed as part of his famous snark.
As soon as I'd finished (3 hrs 12 mins), I started the audiobook again to be sure I hadn't missed anything. That's rare. It's narrated by old pros Iggy Toma and Alexander Cendese. They do have voices distinct from each other, but often I mixed them up and I had to rewind a little and make myself listen to the voice so I knew who was talking. I don't know whether I had got so caught up in the dialogue, or they were using the same style of delivery and their voices seemed to run over each other - that was a little annoying. show less
