While the publisher is selling this as a historical romance, there's more of fantasy than romance in it... and good fantasy too, I must say. I was thoroughly enchanted by the idea of a race of shape shifters who can take on human or dragon form at will - or turn to smoke on a whim - so that I could not lay this book aside for long. While Queen of Dragons is the third of The Drákon series, it is the first I've read by this author. Set in the late 18th century, this tale is a generous blend of fantasy, romance, suspense and adventure that leaves the reader feeling both satisfied and ready for more.

Readers who are strictly reading for the romance may not like this book much because of the scarcity of romantic scenes, yet those who enjoy show more other genres may like this for variety. Recommended to readers ages 17 and up who like or don't mind some romance in their fantasy.

I greatly enjoyed this book, though it does not stand on its own as well as the previous two. (This is not so huge a problem, as the 4th book comes out soon.) The ending, for instance, ties up this specific plot nicely, but leaves way more up in the air than I would like. As a stand-alone, anyway. As a third book in a series which is being continued, I can handle it. Though, I do miss some of the characters whose fate is unclear, and I want to hear more about them in book #4.
Queen of Dragons was interesting with letters at the beginning and end and a slightly unusual romance between Kimber and Maricara, both dragons who spend most of their time in human form. Although romance is involved here, the book is largely about the mysterious threat to dragonkind and the two different dragon communities that Kimber and Maricara come from. It is also the middle book in a series but stands alone fairly well. If I come across the others I may read them, especially the ones after Queen of Dragons.
This is a book about people who turn into dragons - sorta like vampires. So, be aware of what you're getting into. If you don't mind silly, mindless entertainment where you can suspend all disbelief and just escape for a while, this is not a bad way to do it. Fast and easy to read, the story is well written enough that you won't be annoyed.
It was an amusing little book about an insular WereDragon culture with heavy overtones of your typical Bodice Ripper.
The story moved well and kept me returning to see what would happen next.
The major problem I had with this book is it is part of a triology (at least), and relied heavily on your knowledge of the storyline as already developed.
While they DID give a quick blurb, it was not as clear as really needed to understand the story.
This was the 3rd in the Dragon series. The books just keep getting better and better. I enjoyed that there was not many years difference in the book settings. The author kept them close.
this third book picks up almost where the 2nd book left off. It is less than 10 years after the 2nd book finished.
I am really bias to Shana Abe books. She has 5 house rabbits and supports animals rescue. She is such a wonderful author. I hope to read more of her books in the future.
Drakons, people who can turn to smoke then dragons, hidden in the remote hills of Darkfirth, England. And into this peaceful existence an message arrives from Lia, daughter of the Alpha, telling of a princess in the Carpathian mountains who "is fully one of our kind". While the book contained many of the fine elements of the first two in the series, it also left many unanswered questions which, too obviously, set it up for a sequel.
