My go to is always Danielle Steel when I need an easy read no matter the subject -- romance or drama or both in the same book.
Halley is a best-selling novelist (natch). Her twin daughters are 27 and identical. Valerie just got married. She's an entertainment lawyer. Olivia is an artist. They are both moving to CA. Halley will be alone for the first time in years since her partner died.
The chapters alternate between Halley and the girls. This is the first year they aren't spending Christmas together. The girls are going on a yacht that Valerie's husband Seth rented. Halley is highly "allergic" to the sea and declines to go. The girls and Seth feel bad about it. Halley decides to go to Paris after Christmas for two weeks and rented a show more house. On the plane to Paris, she meets a nice man and he's there to visit his son and daughter-in-law.
I like that she alternates chapters since it makes it more interesting and not focused on Halley and her writing all the time. It then focused later on Halley and how her valuable Birkin bag (one of a kind it seems) got stolen when she was sitting at a restaurant. It seems there are professional thieves who do this. It was terrifying what she had to go through to catch this thief who the police have been trying to catch for a few years.
There was a lot of drama of course. She and Bart, the man she met became very close and you know how this is going to end right?
There's a lot of repetitiveness of sentences it seems which can be annoying sometimes. I've read many of her books and don't recall if this occurs in them or not. This book wasn't as fast moving as her others for some reason either. This wasn't one of my favorites of her books though. show less
