The stone is passed to the oldest daughter or niece. When the Judge gives it to his wife his sister is furious. There starts the ridt between the Raincrow and Vanderveer family. Which made me think - the Vanderveer name follows the male line. So if it has stayed in the Vanderveer family the daughters would have had to marry their cousins. Good old aristocratic inbreeding.

When Samantha and Jake meet for the first time as children there is a magical bond formed between them, they are in love. They don't talk, or see each other for a long time, but of course they are in love still.Neither one ever even thinks of dating someone else. Jake has mystical powers, but he does tell Sam. Both of them do things to protect the other. I was annoyed show more how they were "in love" from that moment, but they don't get to know each other, They are both keeping secrets. They don't talk about things.I kept waiting for Jake to tell Sam about his abilities. Also I kept wanting them to realize that the should work together. show less
