Flynn is an adorably sheltered golden retriever, who has very little sense of self preservation, something he acknowledges at some point but doesn't do anything about. Sebastián is a black cat vampire (honestly, is there any other kind?) that is one of the most oblivious vampires. Together, they make a super cute but awkwardly a-dork-able pair.
There was a bit mystery/thriller to this book and that kept the plot moving and thank goodness otherwise these two would have never gotten anywhere. The balance between the two elements (Romance and Mystery) felt pretty good show more I'd call it like a lite mystery. People who really love mysteries will probably be terribly bored by the book, but if you are looking to cross over to MM romance this could be a good book.
There was insta-love, which isn't always my favorite thing, but even with the insta-love there was quiet a bit of pining and figuring out feelings. Though, Seb is like 100% of that problem.
I enjoyed the spice, Gotta love VERS. Well.. I mean not everyone does but I'm a big fan of power dynamics being flipped.
The author seems to really like flowery language and really describing feelings. I personally enjoyed it, but it was enough that I did notice it. There were a lot of cheesy and some over the top parts. Some things felt a bit rushed and others dragged a bit. But nothing so bad that it ruined the book. Overall, It was enjoyable. Personally, I might just read the next book, since that is the one that caught my attention, before I decide if I'll keep with the series. show less

TJ Rose is one of the more unique authors I've read recently, and I read a lot. This is putting her style on display very well, and has a more interesting paranormal twist than I've seen lately.
