Delightful. Several of these are riddles, where it takes a minute to figure out how the constraint interacts with the template. He supplies a few footnotes where the constraint may be obscure, but I don't have the patience to decode 'Digital'.

Guess I'll have to pick up Queneau's 'Exercises in Style' one of these days. (Note: it's a little slim for $17 - half the pages are blank.)
One of the best graphic novel of all genre. It looks like just another comic how-to textbook. And it is indeed a good one. But what made this book a genius is that the author utilized all these 99 different formats of graphic novel to tell a humorous, yet philosophical story.
An innovative book that made me think about style and all the possibilities inherent in one story. Provocative and entertaining, it is well worth reading.

This is a take-off on Raymond Queneau's "Exercises in Style", one of the great inventive pieces of writing of the 20th century, Madden tells the same story or vignette in repeated form, most of them in a cartoon form. In the middle of the book are colored plates with such titles as "A Newly Discovered Fragment of the Bayeux Tapestry" and "Exorcise in Style." Like its precursor, one can enjoy rereading the various ways of expressing the vignette and wonder if I could ever be that supple with writing or images.

Too many ways to keep in mind, but mostly interesting ways. Shows me how inventive writers can be.
Lovely idea; boring execution. Good book for introducing middle grade kid to comics.
graphic novel, each style takes a page, so can finish in 1h, not really deep
