Description
In the August heat they frolicked on the beaches, fetched sticks, played with the children. Then the summer dwellers left, abandoning them to the island's harsh winter. Ravenous hunger and violent rage have brought them together under a cunning, ferocious leader.
Man has betrayed his best friend—now the dogs will have their day. It's a bitter winter, and the dogs of summer have grown hungry ... and vicious!
This edition of David Fisher's The Pack (1976) features a new introduction by Will show more Errickson and the original cover painting by Lydia Rosier.

Content note for potential readers: This book contains intense scenes of animal cruelty and abandonment.
The Long Dark Night is an unflinching survival horror novel that refuses easy catharsis. Fisher writes with a cold, deliberate hand, pushing the reader from anger to futility, making every page feel raw and unsettled. The atmosphere is relentless, the themes bite deep, and the sense of dread lingers well past the final chapter. My only gripe is that certain characters vanish from the stage for long stretches, leaving the spotlight a little too fixed on one voice. Still, the craft and conviction here are undeniable.

David Fisher collaborated with baseball umpire Ron Luciano on his two best sellers. Both "The Umpire Strides Back" & "Strike Two" were "New York Times" best sellers. "Umpire" was excerpted two consecutive weeks by "Sports Illustrated", the first time that magazine ever did so. Fisher also collaborated with baseball manager Tommy Lasorda on his show more best selling autobiography "The Artful Dodger", as well as with San Diego Chargers former owner Gene Klein on the extremely well-reviewed football story, "First Down & a Billion". He also wrote the recent "New York Times" best sellers "Been There, Done That" with Eddie Fisher and "Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man" with William Shatner.
