Turner's first novel is of a sociologist who studies and writes about a "fundamentalist" church, while dealing with his own failing marriage and life. The first time I read this book, I disliked it because the Christians were all so strange, and I didn't like the implication that I was in the same category. Then I realized that Turner effectively showed me a picture of who I am from an outsider perspective, and my attitude changed drastically. After, a good self-evaluation, I realized that the characters weren't so strange after all.
worthy of my reading time
