Stupid heroine. Rather silly plot. Not as much humour as I've come to expect with Veryan. Didn't really get the romance. It seemed forced, and slightly ridiculous. In fact, the whole drama was a bit overcooked, as it were. Still, it's Veryan, so it's not terrible. The large supporting cast was terrific. I am getting fed up with her irritating heroines though. There is also a terribly brazen anti-war posturing in the novel, and while I'm all for anti-war sentiments, I don't need to be clubbed over the head with them.
